NO BOMBING IRAN
Ron Paul did not get elected in 2008. But it seems evident that he postponed the war on Iran by at least two years. That is a great thing.
In 2008, America was about ready to attack Iran. But Ron Paul was campaigning on a platform supporting liberty and opposing undeclared wars in far away places which pose no threat to America. If America had attacked Iran, that would have given a big boost to his candidacy.
We have enough troubles at home without bombing small countries in far away places at vast expense. These undeclared wars have no clear purpose. There is some idea that we are "fighting terrorism". Well if they didn't hate us before, they sure hate us now! We are not making ourselves popular, either in the Middle East or in the rest of the world.
There was a time when America was a beacon of liberty to the world. That image is fading. Increasingly we are seen as the big bully of the world. That is very understandable. And that is very bad.
What we should be doing is setting an example to the world of how sweet it is to live in a land of liberty, and how liberty generates prosperity. This would involve re-establishing liberty. We have been embracing socialism -- notably with the passage of Obamacare. We need to reject socialism and embrace liberty.
We need to get prepared to defend ourselves vigorously from real potential threats, like the Russians and the Chinese.
And we need to stop wasting our time and money and blood on stupid little undeclared wars in far away places that just make everybody hate us.
