THE SECOND AMENDMENT

The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution says, "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.".

"Militia" meant a body of ordinary people who had firearms and who could easily be gathered should the need arise. This was in contrast to a "standing army", which the Founding Fathers viewed with great suspicion. They viewed a "standing army" as a potential tool of tyranny in oppressing the people. They viewed a "militia" as composed of the people themselves, with their personal firearms, and therefore as a great defense against tyranny. George Washington said, "Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the people's liberty teeth keystone... the rifle and the pistol are equally indispensable... more than 99% of them by their silence indicate that they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference. When firearms go, all goes, we need them every hour.".

Thomas Jefferson said, "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.".

Thomas Jefferson said, "And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms...The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.".

Thomas Jefferson said, "Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that of every free state.".

Thomas Jefferson said, "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.".

Thomas Jefferson said, "The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that... it is their right and duty to be at all times armed.".

Thomas Jefferson said, "A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.".

Swiss people all are trained and all keep their arms at home to be ready for any eventuality. Nobody can surprise them one dark night. Switzerland cannot be invaded. They are ready. Hitler did not even try.
